Christian Henneberg
Bass-Baritone

Christian Henneberg is a second-generation German opera singer.

After his acclaimed house debut at the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken as Alberich in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, he continues to perform in the 2023/24 season in the title role of Der fliegende Holländer at Theater Görlitz, further establishing his presence in the Wagnerian repertoire.

In the 2022/23 season, he was also heard at the Saarländisches Staatstheater as Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus. That same season, he made his role debut as Kaspar in Weber’s Der Freischütz at Staatstheater Schwerin and performed the title role in Don Giovanni at Theater Nordhausen.

At Musikalische Komödie Leipzig, he stepped in at short notice to perform the roles of Director Tihanyi in Die Herzogin von Chicago and Mr. Parchester in Me and My Girl.

Between 2020 and 2023, Henneberg returned several times to Theater Görlitz, singing roles such as Don Giovanni (title role), Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, and the Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, the latter of which he also performed at Staatsoperette Dresden.

In the 2021/22 season, he was heard in the title role of Le nozze di Figaro at Volkstheater Rostock and made his role debut as Alberich at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock.

From 2015 to 2020, Christian Henneberg was a permanent ensemble member at Staatstheater Cottbus, where he portrayed numerous roles including Peter Besenbinder in Hänsel und Gretel, Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Ping in Turandot, Sparbüchsen-Bill in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, and the title role in Don Giovanni.

In the 2014/15 season, he was part of the young artist ensemble at Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen and was also cast in the lead role in George Antheil’s Venus in Africa at Theater Lübeck.

In 2012/13, he performed in several productions at Oper Dortmund, including Don Carlo, Anna Nicole, and a children’s version of Il barbiere di Siviglia.

His first professional guest engagement came in the 2010/11 season at Theater Hagen, where he appeared as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and as the Deputy in Don Carlo.

Christian Henneberg studied from 2010 to 2015 at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen under Jan-Hendrik Rootering, completing his Master of Voice Performance. Prior to that, he studied at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock (2007–2010) with Professor Klaus Häger.

From 2002 to 2006, he was a member of the Dresden Youth Symphony Orchestra as an oboist. He graduated from the Carl Maria von Weber State High School for Music in Dresden.

As a concert soloist, he has appeared at many prestigious concert venues, including the Essen Philharmonie, Berlin Philharmonie, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Konzerthaus Berlin, Liederhalle Stuttgart, and Konzerthaus Freiburg. His concert repertoire includes major works such as Britten’s War Requiem, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s The Seasons and The Creation, Handel’s Messiah and Saul, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and St. Paul, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Dvořák’s Requiem, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.
