
Diana Schnuerpel

Diana Schnürpel, a German soprano born in Russia, received piano and voice training at the Children's Music School in Lipetsk before graduating with distinction in piano from the College of Music and Arts in 2001. From 2001 to 2005, she studied voice at the Choral Arts Academy in Moscow with Prof. Nina Rautio and completed her studies with a Bachelor's degree.
She gave solo piano recitals at the Choral Arts Academy. In 2004 and 2005, she worked there as a vocal coach.
From 2006 onward, she studied voice at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre with Prof. Regina Werner-Dietrich. In October 2010, she graduated with a diploma. In the same year and the following year, she was a finalist in the Lortzing Competition in Leipzig. In 2011, she was awarded 3rd Prize at the 7th National and 2nd International Jószef Simándy Singing Competition in Szeged, Hungary. In 2012, she was a finalist in the Grandi Voci Opera Singing Competition in Salzburg.
She studied with the Wagner tenor Manfred Jung before making her debut in solo concerts featuring Paul Hindemith's "Das Marienleben" in Berlin, Bavaria, and Frankfurt am Main. She gained further early experience as a guest with the MDR Radio Choir and at the Deutsches Nationaltheater, and in July 2013 she performed the role of the Bride in Stravinsky's "Les Noces" at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr.
Since 2013, she has sung the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. Since 2014, she has also performed this role with great success at the Landestheater Detmold, the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the Landestheater Salzburg, and Oper Graz, and since 2015 also at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. She also performs the role of the Snow Queen in George Alexander Albrecht's "Die Schneekönigin".
Diana Schnürpel is also active as a Lied and concert singer. Her concert repertoire includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel, Mozart, and Antonio Salieri. She began her concert career in 2012 with Hindemith's "Das Marienleben" and Dvořák's "Stabat Mater". She was the soloist in a chamber music matinée of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra featuring Leoš Janáček's "Kinderreimen" (1st version), as well as songs by Richard Strauss and Othmar Schoeck. In 2020, she also sang in the closing concert "Schönheit des Abschieds" at the festival "Musiksommer am Zürichsee" under the direction of Manuel Bärtsch.
From August 2016 to June 2021, Diana Schnürpel was engaged at Theater Luzern. There she sang, among other roles, the Queen of the Night in "Die Zauberflöte", Venus and Gepopo in "Le Grand Macabre", Euridice in "Orfeo ed Euridice", Maria Stuarda in "Maria Stuarda", Vixen Sharp-Ears in "Das schlaue Füchslein", and Rosina in "Il barbiere di Siviglia". Since April 2021, she has held German citizenship and is a scholarship holder of the Kulturstiftung Thüringen.
In 2021, Diana Schnürpel was a prizewinner of the Quebec Music Competition in the categories Voice, Piano, and Clarinet (Trio), as well as Grand Champion 2021 of the Quebec Music Competition in the Voice category in Canada. She won 2nd Prize in the Ensemble category at the King's Peak International Music Competition, as well as 1st Prize at the MAP International Music Competition in the Voice & Chamber Duo category in the USA. In 2022, this was followed by 1st Prize at the Canadian International Music Competition in the Voice & Piano category, as well as the title of Grand Champion 2022 of the Quebec Music Competition in the Voice category as the DiaMar duo together with Margarita Gritskova. She also received Platinum for "Erlkönig" by Franz Schubert at the Global International Music Competition in the Voice & Piano category.
Since the 2022/2023 season, she has been singing the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" at the Staatstheater Cottbus and at Bühnen Bern.
In 2023, at the Volkstheater Rostock, she performed the concert "Wiener Melange" with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie, as well as an open-air concert with the Bern Symphony Orchestra under the direction of James Conlon on Bundesplatz in Bern.
In November 2023, Diana Schnürpel made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as the Queen of the Night and also appeared at Theater Bremen in Offenbach's "Orpheus in der Unterwelt".
She can also be heard again as the Queen of the Night at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the 2024/25 season, as well as in 2024 at the Komische Oper Berlin and at the Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) Prague.
In October 2025, Diana Schnürpel performed the song cycle "Sommerliebe" by Oliver Gruhn with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock under the direction of Daniel Geiss in the 2nd Philharmonic Concert. On 23 November 2025, she made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera as the Queen of the Night in "Die Zauberflöte" and in the 2025/2026 season she is once again a member of the ensemble of Theater Bremen.
