In 2024, Fang Zhi completed his studies with Professor Markus Schäfer at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
He has appeared in opera productions as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Brighella in R. Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos and August in Offenbach’s Pariser Leben.
He also joined the Simon-Mayr project, taking part in a CD recording of Mayr’s opera Elena in Ingolstadt, where he sang the role of the Governatore.
In 2019 he received the Special Prize at the Maritim Speech Competition, and in 2016 he won third prize in the concerto competition at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. In 2015 he appeared at the SongFest music festival at the Colburn School in Los Angeles.
He began his vocal studies at the age of twelve. In 2009 he won the Gold Prize in the junior category of the National Voice Competition and was awarded the title “Chinese Young Musician”. He also won first prize at the Zheng-Xie Cup National Voice Competition and was invited to appear in the TV programme Flying Dream on the CCTV Education channel.
In 2010 Fang Zhi began his studies at the Music Middle School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with Professor Bian Jingzu, graduating at the top of the 2013 class. From 2013 to 2017 he studied with Professor Alan Bennett at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.
In July 2025 he made his debut as Tamino in the children’s version of Die Zauberflöte at the Gut Immling Festival. In June 2026 he will take on the role of Pong at the Landestheater Niederbayern.
