Barbara Skora
Mezzo-soprano
Barbara Skora is a German-Polish mezzo-soprano known for her outstanding stylistic sensitivity and enormous vocal expressiveness. 
Born in Ratibor, Silesia, Skora showed her talent at an early age, winning several prizes at international competitions in Ostrava (Czech Republic), Krakow, Wroclaw, Gliwice (Poland) and Massa (Italy) before beginning her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw under the tutelage of Dr Magdalena Idzik. 
She soon moved to Germany and began her studies with Prof. Dr Marek Rzepka at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2023 and is currently continuing her studies as a Master's student. During her studies, Skora made her debut as Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte, as the Forester in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen and as Pierrot in a theatre production based on Schönberg's Pierrot Lunaire. Other engagements include the role of Angel in a production of Stefan Litwin's Wie dem Herrn Mockinpott das Leid ausgetrieben wird at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. In the coming months she will perform the role of Orpheus in the music theatre production "Orpheus" and take part in the contemporary music project n[o]ice at the Hanover University of Music and Drama. 
In addition, Skora is a versatile artist who is regularly invited to perform oratorios by J.S. Bach, G.F. Händel, G.B. Pergolesi as well as a wide repertoire of lieder from the Romantic period to the present day with orchestras. 
Her most recent competition success was as a finalist in the 2023 Bogdan Paprocki Competition in Poland. She is currently a Cusanus-Werk and Yehudi Menuhin scholarship holder: Live Music Now! Hannover e.V." foundation. 
In October 2024 Barbara sings the role of Sister Mathilde in "Dialogues des Carmelites" by Poulenc at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
