Already during his studies at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Pavel Shmulevich belonged
the Academy of Young Singers of the Mariinsky Theater, where he made his debut in 2001 as Antonio in Rossini's 'Il viaggio a Reims'; He has been a soloist at the Mariinsky Theater since 2008.
Under the musical direction of Valery Gergiev, he appeared with the Mariinsky Theater at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, at the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
In the 2009/2010 season, Pavel Shmulevich made his debut as King Henry in 'Lohengrin' at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau and was seen at the Bonn Opera as Leander in 'The Love of the Three Oranges'. Pavel Shmulevich was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Konzert Theater Bern from 2012 to 2016, where he performed, among others, as Sarastro in 'The Magic Flute', Rocco in 'Fidelio', Banco in 'Macbeth', Osmin in 'The Abduction from the Seraglio' and as Kasper in 'Der Freischütz' could be heard.
Further guest appearances have taken the Russian bass to the National Theater Mannheim as Gremin in 'Eugene Onegin', to the Theater Heidelberg as Ramfis in 'Aida' and to the Staatstheater Nuremberg as Maurice Koch in 'Quai West'.
Pavel Shmulevich is a winner of major singing competitions in his home country, such as the International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition for Young Opera Singers and the Obraztsova Singing Competition.
In the Wagner department, Pavel Shmulevich has already appeared on stage as Fafner ('Das Rheingold'), Hagen ('Götterdämmerung'), Gurnemanz ('Parsifal') and Hunding ('Die Walküre') at the Mariinsky Theater under the direction of Valery Gergiev as well as König Marke and Hagen in the Nuremberg State Theater and as Hunding in Oldenburg.
